What is a Public Status Page?

A CA App Synthetic Monitor Public Status Page enables your organization to display information about the availability and performance of your critical services. You can post announcements, annotate current issues, and optionally set up a special host name (CNAME) so people can access the status page using your domain name, e.g. It is an easy control channel through which you can transparently inform visitors about the status of your sites and web services.

All CA App Synthetic Monitor Public Status Pages are hosted on Amazon's Cloud infrastructure so they are available even if your site or service is not.

How does it work?

The Public Status Pages are based on the CA App Synthetic Monitor website monitoring service. Any sites and services that are monitored by CA App Synthetic Monitor, can be displayed on a Public Status Page. Normal performance is represented with a green tick icon. When a monitor returns an confirmed error, the Public Status Page will display a red exclamation mark icon. As soon as the monitor detects a return to normal performance, the Public Status Page will update and revert to the green tick icon. Poor performance (e.g. a slowly loading site) is represented with an orange icon. The definition of "slow" is defined by your own organization, for each individual monitor.

Whenever your organization experiences a performance or availability issue, you can annotate it in your CA App Synthetic Monitor account and the information (e.g. 'our technicians are working on a solution. We expect the service to be back to normal by 16:00') will be pushed to your Public Status Page. Announcements can also be added through an RSS feed.

  • Log in to your account and go to the standard monitor settings page.
  • Create a new monitor folder for each Public Status Page you would like to set up.
  • Within the folder, create a monitor for each of your main services. (Note: carefully define the settings of the monitors and especially the timers for the performance thresholds. For an internal contact group, you may want to set up a similar set of monitors with more strict thresholds so your organization receives notification of any performance issues, well before your Public Status Page displays them).
  • Go to the Public Status Page settings page, click the [add] button, and select a folder you created in the previous step.
  • Optionally you can also add a host name within your own domain in the CNAME field. Note that you have to add a CNAME record to you DNS for this host name pointing to
  • Click [make public] and you're done! Note that it might take a minute or two before the status page is available, as the data have to be transferred to the Amazon AWS platform first.
  • Test your Public Status Page by clicking on the preview and/or CNAME links in the public folder listing. Observe that each monitor has it's own details page which looks like this: Public Status Page for the Wikimedia Foundation API
  • The name and logo that are displayed can be changed in your account details
  • Add announcements to your Public Status Page (e.g. 'Scheduled site maintenance will take place between 23:00 - 2:00 Tuesday 16th') or customer updates regarding current service issues.
